The world's oceans need our help! Protect the blue planet and promote ocean conservation with the New England Aquarium during our weekend-long World Oceans Day celebration. On Saturday, June 6, volunteer at one of our beach clean-ups, then visit us at Central Wharf on Sunday, June 7, for a World Oceans Day celebration on our plaza. Bring the family—it's a great way to help clean up our local beaches, raise awareness for ocean conservation and meet others who share your passion for the ocean and the magnificent creatures who inhabit it!

Endangered Right Whales Smash Birth Record
For decades, North Atlantic right whales have remained among the most endangered whales in the world, due in part to their very low reproductive rates. The entire population numbers less than 400 whales, and only a single calf was born in 2000. However, the recently concluded 2009 calving season saw a record 39 baby right whales born off the Florida and Georgia coasts. The old record of 31 was beaten by more than 25 percent!This year's baby boom is to be celebrated, but North Atlantic right whales still have a very long road to recovery. New England Aquarium right whale scientists have been studying right whales and working toward their protection for more than 30 years.

Educators, register now for this intensive, 6-day workshop that offers content background in ocean science and hands-on practice in inquiry-based activities adhering to state curriculum framework. Special emphasis will be placed on linking science and literacy through inquiry and scientific investigations.
